Earlier this month, a number of Edinburgh postgraduates were selected to present papers at the next Classical Association Conference, being held next April at the University of Exeter.

This is a great honour for the students involved with and it is encouraging to see that Edinburgh will have a strong presence at an international level conference that received over 360 applications for a limited number of spaces.  The speakers are:

Amy Bratton: 'Adulterous Slaves? A reappraisal of the role of slaves in the lex Iulia adulteriis coercendis'
Lavinia Foukara: Leto as mother: Representations of Leto with Apollo and Artemis in Attic vase paintings of 6th-5th c. BC
David Greenwood: ‘Celsus, Porphyry, and Julian: a key methodological difference’
John Holton: 'Two opposing dynastai: Ptolemy and Perdikkas at Diodorus 18.33-36'
Alex Imrie: 'A Manipulative Matriarch? Re-evaluating the image of Julia Domna'
Peter Morton: 'Eunus the Cowardly King: Suitable for his Subjects?'
Fiona Mowat: 'Creating the antique: the restorations of G.B. Piranesi'

I'm sure that many of you will join in congratulating the speakers and hopefully many of you will make the the long trip to Exeter (11-14 April 2012) to take part in the conference and give our representatives moral support!

Details of the conference can be found here:

In recent news, the PG reps have arranged that postgraduate students from the University of Glasgow are to join us in our student seminar series.  Glasgow students will be coming along to see what our series is all about and will have the opportunity to present papers in the extended second semester period.

I'm sure you'll all join in welcoming our colleagues from the west to our series.  Hopefully this will prove to be the beginning of closer ties between our two student bodies!
